Leo Baeck Summer University 2017 has started
Since 29 June, 2017, 16 graduates from Israel, USA, Canada, Hungary, Argentina and Germany are visiting at the ZJS in the framework of the Leo Baeck Summer University.
For the next six weeks, they will be intensely studying the German-Jewish history and presence. During two modules, the period from the Jewish emancipation of the 18th century until today and German Jewry are covered in a transnational perspective. The students will learn abour Jewish histopry in eastern Europe. In the third module, the students will work on their own academic projects and conclude with presentations.
Besides the teaching program, important places of Jewish life and German-Jewish history in Berlin and Brandenburg area will be visited. Guest lectures provide opportunities for exchange with protagonists of diverse institutions. Last but not least, the students have the chance to explore Berlin and its surroundings and immerse themselves in the Berlin way of life and culture, as well as to profit from each other’s diverse backgrounds.
Upon successful completion of the program LBSU students are granted up to 12 credit points. The LBSU is funded by the Heinrich Böll Foundation, the foundation Humboldt Universität and the Humboldt International Office at Humboldt-Universität.
